Curatorial Rationale

Due to my background as an international student, my body of work is meant to reflect on an open-minded view of life. Not only are my artworks displayed for the technical skill that is applied to show the creations simple materials can create but also to utilize the visuals from my international background to create an emotional appeal and make the world a more open-minded place. I want to bring people from all around the world together with my artworks, I have always wanted everyone to get along as one but due to cultural prejudices it is difficult for many to understand that we all belong together as one. My vision for my body of work is to help my audience understand that even though some might have different appearances we are all living in the same world and can love and feel just as anyone else. Not only did I want to display a conceptual message but was also interested in the technical aspect of art, realism in particular. I wanted to improve my technical art skills through different medias whilst still exploring my themes and main ideas. Throughout the process I had experimented with many different techniques and tools for my exhibition, but I have always been fascinated by how simple objects like pencils and pens can create something truly beautiful. It was the most amazing to practice and learn techniques on how to use just simple everyday objects to create a realistic three-dimensional image on a plain surface. I explored these because I believe that everyone can create art with the simplest of objects if the time, effort and the right motivation is behind it. Irrelevant of what the motif of the artwork is or who is in the audience viewing the artwork, art will encourage people to talk about it and share their unique ideas about it which is part of my theme in my exploration. Everyone has unique ideas and through my exhibition I want those ideas to be spread and hopefully start connections and potentially even friendships between the random audience members. I think I would label my theme as Identity because I like exploring close friends and family members faces and the emotional impact that the structure that the different shapes create has on myself and potentially others.  I wanted my exhibit to be as simple as possible so that the artworks could be appreciated as much as possible, I did not want a lot of different things going on to distract the viewers from my creations. Because I worked with a lot of black and white, I wanted to use simple white walls that display one or two artworks at a time to not overcomplicate and give every artwork the same possibilities. I did not want to bunch up a lot of my artworks because I feel like it would be difficult for the viewer to appreciate each individual artwork by itself. I simplified my exhibition to have the audience create the atmosphere, the simplicity raises questions that are discussed under the viewers which will then create a unique atmosphere for each person that views my exhibition. I want my audience to be connected by my exhibition, my artworks explore a variety of styles and motifs that can all be interoperated differently, therefore making each viewer relate to my artworks uniquely for each individual artwork. Through my artwork I also want my audience to feel aspired to try and make their own artworks, because I used simple medias like pencils and paint it is possible for everyone to have a go at creating their own artworks with simple materials. I believe that anyone can make art in their own style even with the simplest of materials. Through my artworks I want the audience to recognize the technical skill but also to see that anyone has the possibility of creating artwork like I have done with no expensive materials but with time and dedication.
